Why did the RAF change their name from the RFC just after the first world war?

By the end of WW1 the RFC was the largest Corps (or regiment) in the British Army and was seen as too big to be anything other than a separate, independent, entity. A separate, independent, service with its' own budget, immune from sequestration from other arms, was seen as necessary for the expansion of the armed forces.
